Music Discoveries – Week 8

posted in: Music | 1

Whereas week 7 was a slow but great week in regards of music discoveries, week 8 proved to be a good week both in quantify and quality 🙂

Dahaca
Dahaca Promo shot by Kara RokitaLets start out with some great metal from Poland Dahaca! These guys needs more recognition! They are mainstream enough to attract many metalheads, but also have some extremely great structures and variations in the songs, that gives you just enough ear-candy to also attract the more hard to please metalheads. I really like the vocal it is rough but still the diction is clear, that is something I really appreciate. I came to think of Dez Fafara from DevilDriver and Randy Blythe from Lamb of God while listening. Well I would say that if you like DevilDriver or Lamb of God then you will like Dahaca!

The music is straight forward metal with some great hooks! Well played, well recorded and mixed. Why I haven’t heard of them before is strange, because they are up alongside the biggest names in the metal world (in my opinion), of course the resemblance to other big metal band can be to their disadvantage if they wish to get at big record deal. Well what do I care if they have a record deal or not haha, their music is up for grabs at their Bandcamp site for a reasonably price = too cheap in my world.

I hope they will continue and record yet another album for me to enjoy sometime in the near future, but for now I’m happy with The Pure Misanthropy:

Evoke Thy Lords
Evoke Thy Lords
Over to something different: Russian psychedelic doom/sludge/stoner in the name of Evoke Thy Lords. Well they incorporation of the transverse flute in their music, and that really makes this interesting, in my ears.
It is slow, it is wobbly bass strings, a guttural rough vocal, groovy as hell and some nice melodies. The transverse flute really creates a great out-of-this-world atmosphere. The sound is very laid back and could come off as a jam-session. But I kinda like this laid-back attitude, where the bass and guitar at times seems to follow their own paths into each their own parallel universe. It is a bit ’flummigt’ as we saw in Sweden, a little loose, unfocused, ’music on pot’ so to speak 🙂
Well I like it, and that is that.

Krypts
Lets change genre again and move on to some death metal from Finland delivered by Krypts! This is so good! The bass is chugging along and is very audible, which I like very much. I haven’t really done any reseach on this band and there isn’t much to find on their own website, so I’ll just let the music speak for itself this time:

Sabazius
Week 8 was also the week where Sabazius was introduced to me in the most extreme way I have ever discovered a band before. Instead of taking it slow and humane I jumped right in the deep end of the pool and listened to their really hard to digest 11 hours epic drone/doom track: The Descent of Man. I  tweeted my experiences on this journey along the way, which you can read a transcript of here!
I have since listened to their previous works and I must say that I have enjoyed what I’ve heard so far. My very special description of their self titled album Sabazius is as follows: ”My ears are caressed by the sound of flying, heavily chocolate coated, lazy Bumblebees and Cockchafers!” I don’t know how to describe it in any other words haha

Of course this is not music for everyone, but for those in search of something else Sabazius is the answer.
Below you’ll see some live footage from the recording of The Descent Of Man:
